MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) - Community Health Works helped us compile a list of the top five health issues in Middle and obesity is on the list. County Health Rankings reports 31%of adults in Bibb County are obese, that's higher than the state's average and the national average.
"A lot of times I ate like it was the last day of my life," said Denice Clark, Macon.
Denice Clark was around 215 pounds at her heaviest.
"I've been heavy all my life. In fact in high school I had nicknames like hindenberg and blimp," remembered Clark.
The extra weight was affecting her physically and emotionally.
"Fatigued a lot of the time, tired a lot of the time," explained Clark.
Denice was a yo-yo dieter and she tried different exercises routines, but it wasn't until 2010 that she knew she had to make a lifestyle change.
"One day at a time, one moment at a time, one meal at a time, one exercise class at a time, one foot in front of the other," said Clark.
"It really matters that the person decides that they're going to be consistent, committed and take ownership in their health," said Ricky Cain, Personal Trainer/Cycling Coach at Trained By Cain Studio.
Personal trainer, Ricky Cain, says it's people like Denice who do the work that lose the weight.
"We're dealing with a lot of issues with food choices, education, lack of physical activity in education, it just kind of starts early then just goes all the way to adulthood," explained Cain.
Denice took her health in her own hands and changed her life. She did it for her health, but being thin also has its benefits
"It's thrilling to go into a store and pull stuff off the rack and it fit," said Clark.
Denice has lost 65 pounds and counting.
"If i can do it you can do it. If you had told me yah know 10 years ago when I was at my heaviest that I would be running and that I would have completed two half marathons I would have said to you, you are crazy," explained Clark.
Denice says she got her weight under control with little changes along her journey and she didn't deprive herself.
