Perry Leaders Break Ground on Training Complex

PERRY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- Perry will soon be home to a state-of-the-art disaster training complex.  Wednesday, local leaders helped break ground on the advanced disaster preparedness facility.  The 830-acre site will have the most vigorous and realistic training facility in the country for both civilian and military first responders.  The founder of Guardian Center says the site off Thompson Road will allow training for natural and man-made disasters.

"Today we have the ground breaking event for a seven year odyssey that will turn into the guardian centers for Georgia, the worlds premiers disaster preparedness and validation center," said Geoff Burkart, Founder and CEO of Guardian Center.

Perry Mayor Jimmy Faircloth tells 41NBC he's excited about the center and the 100 new jobs it will bring to the city.

Project leaders expect the facility to have a $75 million impact on the Houston County economy.
