There's new evidence that the prevalence of obesity in America may have plateaued, but it's still going to take a lot of work to reverse the trend.
It's a big problem that experts say can be tackled with little steps starting today.
If we spend less time in sedentary pursuits, even walking, doing household chores, enjoying social time with friends.. on the move, it helps," says Dr. Howard Eisenson of the Duke Diet and Fitness Center.
Nearly 70-percent of adults in this country are overweight.
One in three is obese.
About half that many kids and teens are considered obese.
Experts say adults could do a better job modeling healthy eating and exercise habits.
"Those little guys watch us to learn what to do, and they watch us more than they listen to us," Dr. Eisenson says.
While the scale has held steady for a majority of Americans there were notable elevations of obesity in men, boys, and African-American and Mexican-American women.
The new statistics are based on the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey.
