Macon Car Wash Recycles Water

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) - The Fountain Car Wash Express is keeping cars clean and going green with a water recycling center.

The Wash Water Reclaim Center catches water, filters out the residue and then the car wash reuses it. For the same amount of water used to wash a car at home, Fountain Car Wash Express can wash five cars.

"It's not just a good way to save money, but it's good to protect the resources we have," said Fountain Car Wash Owner Chuck Duggan.

If anyone knows, Duggan does. Duggan's family has been in the business for over 20 years. He says with this system his water bill is lower now than it was in 1989.

"Without the system, we would probably spend over $2,000 a month in water bills and as it is, it costs about $800 a month," Duggan said.

Duggan says a green car wash still gets cars clean. The water is filtered out and the final rinses are always in fresh water.

Customers don't seem to be bothered by the idea of recycled water. Shirley Mathis stops by the car wash almost every two weeks.

Next time you're looking to get a car squeaky clean, Duggan says go green. Washing a car at home uses about 5 to 10 gallons of fresh water a minute.

"It's a good $5 car wash and knowing they recycle makes it even better," Mathis says.
