Feagin Mill Middle School Cashes in on Recycling

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- Feagin Mill Middle School is leading the way in a national recycling program. For years the school has participated in FundingFactory, a program aimed at raising money by recycling ink cartridges, cell phones, laptops, and small electronics.

The school ranks in the top 2% for the number of items it brought in for 2011. Feagin Mill ranks 221st out of 10,298 schools for their recycling efforts.

Computer teacher, Brian Lewis, says the school's success comes down to community support.
According to Lewis, in the last 4 months the school has raised more than $400. Lewis uses the funds to buy new technology programs for the school.

He recently purchased a program called Sync Eyes. It helps monitor what students are doing on their computer. It also helps quieter students ask questions through an instant message option.

Lewis says the best part of the program is that it was completely free. "It just helping us as far as keeping up with technology that's coming out," says Lewis.

Principal, Dr. Jesse Davis, adds, " Anything resource wise we can equip our teachers with gives them more tools in our tool box our kids can benefit from."

The school accepts all empty ink cartridges, cell phones, small electronics, and computers. If you'd like to drop items off you may do so during school hours.
