MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) - A former Macon City Councilman officially kicked off his campaign for election to the state house of representatives on Monday night.
Gerald Harvey is running for the state house district 142 seat against incumbent Nikki Randall.
He spoke to supporters tonight at his headquarters on Poplar Street in downtown Macon.
Harvey tells us he's running because he feels the current representation hasn't listened to the people, and it's time to do something about it.
"When I look at the last session of the general assembly, the things that came out of the general assembly, the people in the district just felt like they were totally ignored by Representative Randall," says Harvey. "And that's why I'm here to challenge her."
Randall has held this seat with no opposition since she took office in 1999.
