MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) - There's less than 60 days until Macon and Bibb County voters will decide on consolidating the two governments. State Representative Allen Peake is backing the bill, and believes if voters know the facts of the downsize they'll vote yes.
Today, Peake presented the consolidation plan to local business men and women at the monthly Macon Rotary luncheon. Peake says he's hitting all the big meetings in Bibb County to make sure everyone is well-educated on the plan before they vote on July 31st.
"This is smaller more efficient government. We're going to go from 21 elected officials to 10. I think that's what connects with people. We've seen the dysfunction, the fight between city and county. I'm trying to share with voters, this consolidation effort will unify voters and that's the important message," says Peake.
