Bibb Commissioners Vote Against Tax Increase
Bibb County Commissioners voted not to raise property taxes Tuesday night.
At their third and final public hearing on a proposed tax increase, several homeowners thanked Commissioners for choosing to make $1.7 million in cuts, to avoid raising taxes.
Commissioners voted unanimously to roll the millage rate back to revenue-neutral, meaning most Bibb property owners will not see an increase in taxes from the County.
Commission Chairman Sam Hart said, "We heard them. The first two public hearings we had, we heard people were concerned about taxes, concerned about economic times and so we discussed that and started looking for cuts. But we still have a challenge in terms of next year's budget. But in this year's budget, we were able to look at some things that we wouldn't be able to do this year anyway and we just made some cuts. Some hurt, some will affect services slightly, but not a great deal."
Commissioners will begin working on next year's budget in May.
