Man Sentenced in Pipe Bomb Case
A Columbus man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after a jury convicted him of attacking police officers with a pipe bomb.
The jury in Columbus convicted 59-year-old Raymond J. Geoffrion on Wednesday of aggravated assault on a police officer, manufacture of a destructive device by a convicted felon and other charges.
Sheriff's deputies went to Geoffrion's apartment in 2007 to arrest him on an outstanding warrant. Testimony showed that he refused to admit them, and when they forced their way in they found Geoffrion holding a pipe bomb and a lighter.
Geoffrion testified that the devices were used as braces for furniture and to burn trash.
