City of Gray Deals with Increase in Sewage
The city of Gray's population is growing, and so is the amount of waste being pumped into the sewage treatment center there. City leaders say, the treatment center is getting more waste and it can handle. If they don't do something soon, the city could be cited by the Environmental Protection Division. Now Mayor Gus Wilson and Waste Plant Manager Sidney Lattimore are proposing a new $10 million dollar treatment facility to handle current waste and future growth.
The city wants to build the facility within the next two years. In 1997, the Environmental Protection Division told the city to expand its treatment center or it would be cited. That would mean more fines for the city and an increase in taxes for residents.
