Patterson Stepping Down as Bibb Schools Superintendent
After weeks of speculation, it's official. Bibb County School Superintendent Sharon Patterson, is stepping down from her position.
Monday night, the board voted to approve a proposal made by Mrs. Patterson to buy her out of her existing employment contract. That contract was set to expire on June 30, 2011. It will now terminate at the end of this month, and with a lump sum pay out of $198,000.
Patterson tells 41 NBC News, "I have proposed, and the board has agreed, my employment contract would be concluded at the end of this month, and at which time I will retire."
An interim superintendent was not named during the called board meeting. However, Deputy Superintendent Sylvia McGee will assume the superintendent's responsibilities at the end of the month, unless the board names a replacement before then.
