Redevelopment Setbacks for Macon
The $1.5 million dollar grant the city of Macon was hoping to get from the state, won't be coming after all. The city planned to use the grant money from the Department of Community Affairs to redevelop the Atlantic Cotton Mills property just behind the Kroger store on Pio NoNo Avenue. Developers plan to turn the eight acre site into apartment homes.
The council lost the grant after voting to take more control over funding for future projects using the grant money. That violated DCA policy causing the city to lose the funds.
Macon Mayor Robert Reichert says he's working with the state Department of Community Affairs to find other funding for Atlantic Cotton Mills site.
