Several Jobs May Come to Macon
A million-square-foot facility may be coming to Bibb County and is expected to bring a significant number of jobs with it.
South Bibb County is one of two areas being considered for the site of a manufacturing plant and distribution center.
The president and CEO of Macon Economic Development Commission expects the company to make a decision as early as next week.
The chamber has conducted a development regional impact study which gives nearby communities an opportunity to learn about how the project could impact them.
For the last three months, the commission has been working on bringing the project to Macon.
"Obviously, in a plant of this size, while we're not at liberty to release employment numbers or total investment yet, it will have a significant impact on our community," said Chip Cherry. "It shows a positive economic impact and hopefully we're successful in landing it."
If the company decides to build the facility in Bibb County, construction will begin next summer.
