Cherokee County officials say a high-speed chase that injured a deputy and wrecked a squad car ended with the arrest of a 53-year-old Canton man.

Cherokee Sheriff's spokesman Lt. Jay Baker says officers were called to a a Canton residence Monday night. Baker says Thomas Cook left the house before officers arrived.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports Baker says officers stopped Cook's car, but Cook brandished a firearm and almost hit a deputy with his car.

Baker says officers pursued the car up Interstate 575, and that a deputy wrecked her car during the chase and was treated at a hospital.

State Patrol spokesman Lt. Paul Cosper says Cook's car was stopped in Pickens County.

Cook was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer and attempting to elude police.
