WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) - A former interim mayor, a business man and a young politician are in the running for the Warner Robins Post 5 City Councilman seat.
Clifford Holmes, Jr. is the former interim mayor, and says he holds the experience to lead the city.
"I know the citizens. I know our needs. I care about the people," says Holmes.
Richard 'Chef' Weldon claims he has more than 15 years of a steady political background. He is an active member on one city board.
"Chuck Shaheen also selected me to be on the Downtown Development Authority, here again wanting to beautify the city, and really show our revitalization of our downtown area, which is really going to be something great in a couple years," says Weldon.
Liberty Kovach believes though her political resume is not as long as her opponents, she can help the city move forward.
"This is the first time I'm getting involved in politics, but I'm a really quick learner." Kovach says, "There's nothing that I can't do that I set my mind out to, and I'm a great listener."
"I don't have to go back to go to that learning stage; I just go back, and reintroduce myself to the people as the councilman...they know me when I come in there [city hall] now," says Holmes.
Holmes mentored Weldon, and now, they are running the same race.
"My thing is leaders making leaders. That's what I want to do for the city of Warner Robins," says Weldon.
All the candidates agree that the city needs more recreation for the youth, and more economic development to boost the amount of industry and manufacturing in the area.
Each post 5 candidate added a specific trait that sets them apart, and helps them to be better leaders.
"I'm a servant, and I've been a servant all my life. I still want to serve the citizens of Warner Robins, Georgia," says Holmes.
Kovach says this role is about collaboration.
"I'm a team player. I work really well with others, even if I disagree with someone, I can always find a way to work with them, and come to a compromise."
Weldon ended by stating his hopes for the future.
"I'm a visionary, and a dreamer. I dream of seeing our city become a city of growth and a great city. Warner Robins has a terrific, fantastic base to-do just that."
