Middle Georgia Parents Send Kids to Virtual Schools

Virtual learning is a new concept giving parents alternatives to traditional schools, and is a big hit around Middle Georgia, especially for one family.

5th grader, Shelly Pruitt, has a tough time mastering math. "I'm good at english, reading, social studies, and sciences. I'm good at all the others just not math," says Shelly.

It's a challenge that's about to change the way she studies. Her mom, Amanda Pruitt says, "I'd like to have more control in her education and allows her more or less time on subjects," which means next year, Shelly will spend 6th grade in a very different online classroom.

Amanda Pruitt couldn't be happier, because Georgia's Connection Academy comes fully equipped with the latest technology trends.

The virtual school has certified teachers and follows state regulated teaching programs. The key difference in this type of school and a traditional school is flexibility.

Each child can have an altered lesson plan to focus on what subject he or she needs to improve on. Marketing Director, Sylvia Pryor says, the school can gear learning towards what the student needs to be academically successful.

Students at Connection Academy talk to their teachers through live online lessons. The lessons are taught using traditional books and online texts.

Plus, the school is a part of·Georgia's public education system, which according to Amanda Pruitt, is an added benefit, “The biggest thing to me is that the tuition is free.”

Another aspect of the virtual is that students still get the chance to go on field trips.
