Judge Finds Probable Cause in Alabama JUCO Shooting

OPELIKA, Ala. - A judge says there's probable cause for a grand jury to consider capital murder charges against the man charged with killing his mother-in-law and shooting his wife and her grandmother outside a community college.

Lee County District Judge Russell Bush issued the ruling Wednesday after hearing evidence from a police officer against Thomas Franklin May III.

About a dozen friends or family members of the victims attended the hearing. Family members declined comment.

The 34-year-old May's 4-year-old daughter was also in the bullet-riddled minivan with the women and was injured by flying glass.

May could face the death penalty if convicted of capital murder in the killing of 62-year-old Brenda Watson, who lived in Opelika and Macon, Ga. Injured were her daughter, 36-year-old Bethany Lynn May, and mother, 93-year-old Maude Ethell Marshall.
