Birthday of Pio Nono, the Pontiff Pope By ZeEster Clyatt
Pio Nono Avenue, as far as many locals are concerned, is just another street name, but it was actually designated in honor of the great Pontiff Pope, Giovanni Maria Mastai-Ferretti, otherwise known as Pope Pius IX. Pio Nono (Pee-O-Nono) is commemorated annually in the Catholic Church on February 7, and today, May 13, happens to be his birthday.
Born in 1792, he served from 1846 –1878, a total of 31 years, 7 months and 23 days. Pio Nono is the longest -reigning pontificate of the Catholic Church to this date. “I think it’s interesting to know the history of Macon’s streets,” said Sam Henderson, Executive Assistant to Mayor Robert Reichert.
State Senator Robert Brown appeared on 41 NBC News at 6pm Tuesday to explain the details of his restructuring plan.· Read Senate Bill 274 here.
His bill would require a new Macon-Bibb consolidated government to cut expenses by 20%.· To bring those savings to taxpayers, local leaders would have to make massive cuts as they form a new government.· Brown tells 41 NBC those cuts would come from several changes, including modifying local authority boards, abolishing the current city and county departments, changing employee benefit plans, and restructuring the workforce.
Former Georgia slaves played a critical, but little known role in the historic struggle that pried open the door to black enlistment in the United States military during the Civil War.
Today marks the end of one chapter for me, and the beginning of a new one. Over the last six and half years you’ve welcomed me into your homes to deliver something I take great pride in, our newscast.
After today, I will no longer make that delivery, but I will continue to make sure 41NBC remains your best option for news in Middle Georgia.
I have been transitioning into a different leadership role here at 41 NBC for the past couple of weeks, in preparation for a promotion, a new job for me, which I will begin on Monday, as the news director. It’s the top job in the newsroom. It’s a great move for me, and I believe it will be a good move for you too.
I’ll continue to maintain my blog here at 41NBC.com and my Facebook page.
It wasn’t an easy decision for me, but I think know a blessing when I see one.
You should know I truly enjoy anchoring this broadcast, but I also love working with reporters to get the story the right, defending them in their pursuit of the truth, and making sure we have the resources and the right people who can get to the point of a story.
So, I want to THANK YOU for allowing me to share the news with you over the last few years. We’ve shared some great stories.
As News Director here at 41NBC, I’ll continue to make sure that doesn’t change.
