Have the busy sounds of life in a city put a damper on your way of living? How about trying something different?
Located in Crawfordville, Georgia, A.H. Stephens State Park is showing those who are unfamiliar with the beauty of nature, just how fun it can be to sleep under the stars.
The folks behind the First Time Camper Program ensure that every need you have as a new outdoorsman is met.
Park Manager, Andre McLendon, says that they will provide the tent, lamps, propane, and a stove. All that you need to bring is your food for the time you plan to stay, a sleeping bag, and clothing.
If you've never camped before, take this as your official invite to get a lesson from the experts!
"The campsite is clean when the campers get here," says park volunteer Ray Murray. "If they come in an RV or a trailer we assist them, if they need help getting it set up."
Ray and his wife, Janice, are volunteers who are just feet away from you. They're available twenty-four hours a day to ensure that those who are less experienced enjoy their time in the wild!
"We keep an eye on things," Ray says. "We make sure people are not in areas where they can get hurt or something like that. We identify wildlife and trees to them occasionally."
Speaking of wildlife...
"Well, out here you're going to see the occasional fox squirrel. You see red-headed woodpeckers. You will see a turkey. You will see a lot of deer. Just beautiful animals."
So, if you happen to know a city dweller who is feeling a little adventurous...
"Come on, try it," Janice says. "If you try it once, you'll like it. You really will."
"Go ahead and try it. Go ahead and try it. I can almost guarantee that it'll be a great experience and we welcome the opportunity to share that with you," Andre says.
Believe it or not, the First Time Camper Program is only $45.00! Groups are welcome to enjoy the scheduled group campouts.
