Forsyth-Monroe County premiered Public Safety Festival
FORSYTH, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The streets of downtown Forsyth were blocked off for the premiere of the Forsyth-Monroe County Public Safety Festival.

Children played on inflatables, and strolled with their parents through the festival. Attendees got a chance to meet law enforcement workers across the county.

The Director of Monroe County Emergency Services, Donny Mercer, says they wanted to show people what goes on behind the scenes.

The Co-President of Leadership Monroe class of 2014, Tammie Pierson, says they started the festival for residents to meet the people that keep them safe.

"It was a project that our class chose to do and it’s to bring public safety awareness, to the community, as well as, bring recognition to Forsyth and Monroe County as the Georgia Public Safety Capital of Georgia," says Pierson.

Festival attendees saw an overturned car, which was to remind them about the hazards of driving while distracted, or under the influence.

City and County firefighters showed off their equipment, while various law enforcement agencies gave tips on how to stay safe.
