Customers admit they are excited about this new primary care option at the Walmart located at 6020 Harrison Road in Macon.
The Walmart Care Clinics visit cost $40 per person. Medical staff offer primary care, such as immunization shots and health screening, as well as pregnancy and hiv tests. Care clinic diabetes screening is $8.
"I feel that it’s going to help the economy," says Tara Kreider. "my husband, he’s a diabetic. so, and even out of our co-pay and stuff is more than the $40 dollars. so it will help us in that way."
Walmart says it’s not just a benefit for its customers, but also for its employees.
"Walmart is committed to finding ways to drive down health cost for the the more than 1.1 million associates and family members covered by Walmart healthcare plans nation-wide,” says Walmart Director of Market Health and Wellness. “In addition, to the 140 million customers that visit our stores each week.”
The Walmart Care Clinic is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m, on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.,
and on Sundays from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.
Claron Chatmon says the Walmart Care Clinic is a perfect “fit” for the neighborhood.
"It’s a good idea for the care clinic to be here. it’s closer to this area,” says Chatmon. “I think the prices are really good and it fits with the demographics of this area."
Pamela Williams says she frequently shops at the Walmart store on her way home.
"It’s convenient ,” says Williams. “I can come here when ever i’m sick and I don’t have to go to the coliseum, or medical center. I can go right here in my neighborhood."
Appointments are not necessary, the Walmart Care Clinic accepts walk ins.
Marilyn Robinson says the care clinics can help people who need medical attention.
"I think it’s great for people who cannot afford medical insurance and it tells me that Walmart cares about the community," says robinson.
The Harrison Road Walmart Care Clinic is one of 12 stores in Georgia, South Carolina and Texas participating in the pilot program.
