MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Tis the giving season, and if you haven’t heard of Toys For Tots, it’s a great way to give back to the community.
The program, organized by the Marine Corps, provides toys for needy families at Christmas time.
Representatives stood outside Walmart on Zebulon Road Saturday to collect donations and toys for the program.
Staff Sergeant Scott Schambers encouraged everyone to donate what they could.
“Being out here definitely helps a lot, it lets the civilian populous know that we’re out here,” said Schambers. “It gives us a face to face to be able to explain exactly what we’re doing and let people know that the toys that we’re collecting here are staying local. These are going to families that live here in the Middle Georgia area.”
The donations go straight back into the toys–they use the money to buy more toys at the end of the day.
