MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- The Bibb County Animal Shelter temporarily closed again. This time, it was because two animals were infected with the Parvo Virus. According to Kevin Barrere, the Public Affairs Officer for Bibb County, the animal shelter opened back up this morning after being closed as a precaution on Wednesday morning.

One dog had to be euthanized, and the other one is being treated. Wendi Hilliard with the Georgia Department of Agriculture gave the okay to re-open the shelter, but the cages that were infected with the virus had to be quarantined.

“But what I will do is write them up what we call a quarantine.  They will have a number; it will be a quarantine for three days.  It will state that there are no animals here. This one kennel will be shut down and quarantined, and the reason that we are not going to close the whole shelter is because they can quarantine this one area,” said Kebin Barrere, Bibb County Public Affairs Officer.

So far, no other animals have shown signs of the Parvo Virus.
